When the caveman in you cannot be tamed, head over to the Laguna Beach full moon drumming circle.
Every full moon is celebrated on Aliso Beach under the cliff-side Getty Mansion. Belly-exposed women dance around a bonfire to the tribal vibrations of shirtless men. As the collective beat shifts from one energy to another, bodies follow in form. As bodies become wilder, drum beats follow. Drummers and dancers become one with a pearly-gate movement and the voyeurism is delicious.
Move around the circle to change your view from a palm tree clad cliff to ocean waves, or forget the view and join the fun.
When tides are high, the uninhibited take a cold splash. When tides are low, some climb rocks to Camel Point Beach where privacy reigns. Bring a beach towel.
No dish throwing here – the crowd could not be more easy-going.
Drummers begin at 7 o’clock. Police politely ask drummers to stop playing at 10 o’clock for the neighbors’ sanity.
