In Laguna Beach, the area from Abalone Point in Irvine Cove to Goff Point at Treasure Island Beach is a marine reserve. From there, a state conservation area extends to Seacliff Drive at Table Rock Beach. Taking living marine resources is prohibited in both of the new areas, roughly five miles of coastline, and South Laguna’s waters are regulated by the less-restrictive Dana Point conservation area. Under its standards, recreational fishing is allowed for finfish, LOBSTERS and sea urchin, with protections for tidepools.

This lobster season runs from September 28, 2013 through March 19, 2014 – plenty of time to catch some and invite me for dinner.
